Uelzena Group publishes sustainability report for 2022

Sustainability report 2022

Uelzen, August 2023 – The Uelzena Group presents its seventh sustainability report entitled “Our way. Together for tomorrow.” for the 2022 business year. The report highlights developments in the five areas of company, products, production, employees and social and regional responsibility. Exclusively available online, the report is based on the international GRI standards (Global Reporting Initiative). The GRI Index 2022 and relevant key figures are available to download from the website.

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions

The Uelzena Group continues to pursue the objective of reducing greenhouse gas emissions along the value-added chain and has developed an integrated energy and environmental accounting system, which plays a key role in the report. This method makes it possible for the company to precisely determine the CO2-equivalent and derive targeted measures to reduce emissions. In the 2022 reporting year, the group also prepared for a large-scale survey of greenhouse gas emissions generated by milk production, using the online agricultural climate check tool “Agrar-Klimacheck”.

Sustainable investments result in cost savings

The commissioning of the modern spray-drying plant in Uelzen as well as other projects have made production more efficient, productive and environmentally friendly. Measures have also been taken at the group’s other sites to reduce wastewater load and fresh water consumption. Due in part to the high energy costs associated with the war in Ukraine, the Uelzena Group has forged ahead with energy-saving measures.

Strong team spirit focuses on employees

Employees are the driving force of sustainable company development. The Uelzena Group has implemented major projects to promote a strong company culture and an authentic employer brand. The sustainability report also emphasises the role of employees in promoting community activities both within and outside the company. Many employees volunteer in charitable projects that have a positive impact on the communities in which they live and work.
